“1. What was your biggest challenge prior to joining CrossFit 7070?
My mindset was the biggest challenge. CrossFit has the reputation of being super challenging, and I was nervous. I came in as a 47 year old with rheumatoid arthritis, a pre-diabetic, and 35-40 pounds overweight — I was scared to death!
2. How did that challenge make you feel?
I was nervous on the first day of On-Ramp. I could barely squat at first and was extremely out of shape!
3. What changed after joining?
After joining, the support staff and coaches have been incredible. Everyone works at their own pace, there is a Level Method in place so you can work out at an appropriate level, and you compete against yourself. The coaches still push you, and everyone is in here working towards their own goals…it’s phenomenal! Every class I attended I got stronger and more confident.
4. What specific results can you share?
I used to work out on the treadmill and some other various exercise programs with no real results. I’ve been here just over 6 months and have lost 3″ off my hips, waist, bust, an inch off each thigh so overall feeling much tighter. I’ve lost 7 pounds overall and have gained a bunch of muscle. I feel much more capable in the workouts.
5. What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining?
Just try it and give it a chance. If I can do it, then anyone can!
6. Anything else you’d like to add about your experience?
It’s fantastic. You’re never bored, and the way the workouts are designed have made me feel the best I ever have in a very long time.”

Amber Newell’s story

“1. What was your biggest challenge prior to joining 7070?
My biggest challenge prior to joining 7070 was losing weight. I have been struggling my whole life to lose weight but could never make any progress or find any form of exercise that I could stick with. I had no clue how to exercise effectively or eat healthy and have only gained weight for my whole life.
2. How did that challenge make you feel?
The thought of trying to change my diet and trying to get a workout routine seemed so intimidating that I could never even start on something, and the few times I tried to make a change I always resorted back to my old habits. My struggle with weight loss has always made me feel disappointed and feel like I could never make any progress.
3. What changed after joining?
When I joined 7070 everything became so much easier. The combination of the class structure as well as the wonderful and welcoming environment made showing up easy, which used to be the hardest part. Once I joined 7070 working out just became a part of my lifestyle, I fell in love with it. Then once I started working with the nutritionist that was truly a life changer, I’ve learned so much about how to eat healthier and had an expert there with me to guide me and support me which was incredibly helpful.
4. What specific results can you share?
Since starting at 7070 I’m the strongest and the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life. I can deadlift 445lbs, I was able to run an 8:25 mile when before I could barely run 400 meters, and since I started my nutrition journey I’ve lost 55lbs. Joining 7070 has done nothing but improve my quality of life.
5. What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining?
7070 is probably the best box to go to if you are on the fence about CrossFit. Of any box I’ve been to 7070 is by far the best place to start out, they do a better job at teaching and guiding you than any other box I’ve been to. The coaches are so friendly and helpful, and not to mention the other members. The environment at 7070 is so welcoming and is entirely judgement free. Whether you’re a CrossFit expert or a beginner you will be accepted and cheered on by everyone there.
6. Anything else you’d like to share?
Joining CrossFit 7070 was one of the most impactful decisions I’ve made, it’s really changed my life for the better. I have had only positive experiences here and it truly feels like a family. The owners Mark and Shannon are some of the nicest people I’ve met and they do an amazing job running this box in a way that anyone, regardless or age or ability, can feel comfortable and safe to work to get stronger and healthier. This doesn’t feel like a cold business that’s only after your membership, 7070 really is a family. If that sounds like the environment you’re looking for then this is the box to go to.”

Cory Hurley’s story

“1. What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to joining 7070?
My biggest challenge was staying motivated due to boredom. It was also hard to stay motivated because I did not have accountability with my workouts.
2. How did that challenge make you feel?
I felt really discouraged because I knew I needed to exercise due to my advancing age but just could not find the willpower or the right kind of workouts that would keep me motivated and seeing results.
3. What changed after purchasing/joining/attending?
Well one thing is for sure is that I am never bored now. I have not had the same work out and I have attended a lot of classes. I have also found my “tribe” that helps keep me accountable. It really has become a community for me and that has been the difference maker in my motivation.
4. What specific results can you share?
I was very concerned because after the age of 42 you start losing 1 to 2 pounds of muscle a year. My main goal was to gain muscle and lose body fat. Over the last year I am down 2% of my body fat but yet I’ve gained almost 7 pounds of muscle. I think at the age of 50 this is somewhat extraordinary to be able to put on this type of muscle and have fun while doing it.
5. What would you say to somebody on the fence about purchasing / joining / attending?
I had my preconceived notion’s of CrossFit and boy was I wrong. I found a lot of people just like me who just wanted to be healthy and that community has been the difference between me succeeding and not succeeding. Such a great environment to achieve my goals. If nothing else try it for a couple of months and I guarantee you you will be hooked.
