Why Do We Own a CrossFit Gym?

When Mark and I decided to buy CrossFit 7070, it was a pivotal moment in both of our lives. We had invested so much into the community as CrossFit coaches, crafting programming and helping individuals achieve their fitness goals. The thought of transitioning from coaches to gym owners was both daunting and exciting, but we knew it was the right move because we were passionate about what we were doing.

Are we crazy? Maybe a little…

When we took the leap into ownership, we may have been a little nuts. 5 days after signing paperwork, our third kiddo was born. Mark was still a high school math teacher and I was still a church office manager, yet I found myself at the gym most mornings with our little girl in a front pack carrier attached to the oxygen tank I wore in a backpack. And somehow our two older boys survived. And we were just a few months away from finding out we were expecting our fourth and final kiddo.

So Why Buy a Gym?

Prior to the gym life, Mark was juggling multiple commitments. As a contractor who traveled frequently, he was eager to find a balance that would allow him more quality time with his family. At first, he shifted back to teaching Math at Lewis Palmer High School, but was still looking for a little more freedom with his schedule. Running our own gym seemed to be the perfect solution. Our focus was to create a space where we could foster a supportive community and continue our passion for coaching while still being able to give time to our own family.

The decision to buy a gym was also influenced by the people we encountered. It felt like a perfect fit for us, providing a foundation on which we could build something meaningful with the excellent people in our lives. We have met so many amazing athletes and friends on this path. The value of physical fitness and personal growth has always resonated with us, and we wanted to extend that to others. There’s something truly rewarding about witnessing families transform, both physically and mentally, under the umbrella of what we do at CrossFit 7070. Speaking from personal experience, CrossFit gave me my life back when I struggled with chronic illness. There is a lot that can be said about moving and moving well. We have also seen our older boys grow in strength and confidence as they pursue sports with CrossFit as a conditioning base. CrossFit is truly for everyone. Right now in our group classes, we have ages 7 – 73!

Community is Everything

Mark’s family has a history of entrepreneurship, which added an extra layer of confidence to our decision. For me, it was a leap into the unknown, but one that was filled with potential. We envisioned a gym that not only focused on fitness but also cultivated relationships and a sense of belonging. As we continue on this journey together, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. We’re not just building a gym; we’re creating a community where everyone can thrive. With every class we teach and every member we support, we hope to inspire others to go after their goals, achieve them, and find new passions to pursue.

This current chapter is more than a career change or a schedule change; it’s still a commitment to our values and our community. We can’t wait to see where this adventure continues takes us! If you want to move more, get stronger, or join us on our journey, we would love to meet with you and make a plan. Our schedule is open for free intros, a time to see the gym and sit down and chat about goals. Schedule with us!
